Classroom Management Strategies

Make expectations clear and hold students to those expectations.

Respect is a key ingredient for success.  You must give respect to gain respect.

Discipline should be firm but fair.  Each student is different and each situation is different, you must treat each individually.

Be proactive, not reactive.  Create activities that engage students in the learning process that are meaningful to them. Be present in the learning by moving about and addressing issues with the individual.

Building Relationships is key to a successful classroom. Show students you care and be genuine with them.  Be flexible, adaptable and have a sense of humor.

  • The same approach to all events and all students will not always lead to success.

• The more willing and able you are to accommodate the unexpected the better off you are.

• Don’t be afraid to ask for advice or help.  It is not a sign of weakness, but rather the ability to admit that you don’t know everything and we can all continue to learn.

• Be enthusiastic about what you are teaching.  If you don’t care about it, why should the students.  A student who is uninterested is much more likely to create a negative situation.

• Have fun!  You can still have a class of attentive students, well behaved, on task individuals who are both learning and enjoying the lesson.

• The way you handle situations early in the year will set the tone for later problems.  Students respect someone who sets the guidelines and boundaries.  As stated in number one, make those expectations understandable and hold students accountable.

• You can have fun in the classroom, and still have students act in an appropriate manner. â€‹
