LATEST PROJECTS
PersonalizePD - (click the title) This is a project designed to provide teachers opportunities to develop their technology skills and continue to learn and grow in their educational practice. The site is under construction, but when completed it will have a number of modules providing teachers with tutorials and tasks to assist them in their learning journey. The concept is to reach our teachers where and when they need or want to learn. This will not replace personal instruction, but will compliment our current practices. In the end the site will resemble something like this gg.gg/techventure

Students today express a desire to do hands on, meaningful projects. They want to utilize technology over traditional methods of sharing their understanding. In an effort to provide them with opportunities to create products that demonstrate their learning, I have developed a multitude of activities that put more control of the learning environment in the hands of the students. The following are just a few examples of projects and learning activities that I have done to engage the students in the learning process and create more meaningful learning experiences.

Virtual Reality Field Trips
This year we were able to partner with Cellcom to bring Virtual Reality to students. We worked with third grade teachers to explore the environment around them and connect global issues like water quality and pollution to their lives. The images below were of an impromptu introduction to Virtual Reality goggles as I was heading to the 3rd grade class to work with them I shared the experience with a few second graders to let them see what VR is all about.

BreakoutEDU
Breakouts are growing in popularity, and while many don't utilize a lot of technology, there are often elements of technology infused in the creation and solving of clues. One example I was able to witness was done as a collaborative effort by science teachers who created a highly engaging breakout activity. What I really appreciated about this activity was the amount of science content and knowledge that students were expected to draw upon in order to solve the clues.

Makey Makeys
These are pretty simple tools that can be used in many different ways. The first example was with elementary students learning about Makey Makeys and they were asked with playing a song using conductive materials like spoons. The other example was used in middle school science where students were learning about circuits. We didn't provide them much explanation of how the Makey Makey's worked other than a short introductory video and then asked them to complete tasks working as a group. They have to figure out how to create a closed circuit for the task to be completed and in doing so they problem solved and learned about how electricity flows and materials conduct electricity.
